Dust-Me Selectors is a development tool that scans HTML pages to identify unused CSS selectors.
The extension has two main functions, both triggered from the main Control Panel tab:
* the Spider function parses the current page for links, then scans each linked-page to test for unused selectors. As it crawls, it builds up a detailed picture of all the selectors it finds, organised in two lists of "Unused" and "Used" selectors.
* the Find option only scans the current page, and can be used to test additional pages that weren't in the sitemap, or to re-test highly dynamic pages (for example, where content only appears after user interaction).
The data is stored independently for every site you check, and you can view your stored data in the next two panels: View Unused Selectors and View Used Selectors. From within those panels, you can also manually move selectors between the "used" and "unused" lists — for example, if selectors are shown as unused but you know for sure they are used, you can manually Mark them as "used" and thereby save time on additional manual tests.
The next panel down is the Spider Log, which shows a list of every page that was crawled the last time the site was spidered. There's also a Data Management panel, where you can delete the stored data for individual sites, and finally a Quick Preferences panel gives you quick access to all the options available on the main Preferences page.
