Opera browser required.
*** IMPORTANT NOTICE ***
The online viewer option will be removed starting in version 2.2. If you use this feature and still want to use it afterward, please install "Swiss Knife", a new extension for Opera. Do not worry, you can port your settings to the new extension using the backup/restore feature on the preference page.
This extension automatically redirects you to the secure version of web pages. It also modifies the links on pages you open to make them point directly to the HTTPS version (those rules can be edited from the preference page).
Default websites:
* Dropbox
* Evernote
* Facebook
* Google (Gmail, Reader, Calendar, Picasa, YouTube, etc.)
* Hotmail
* New York Times
* The Pirate Bay
* Twitter
* Wikipedia
* Many others
To add your own rule, click "Menu" > "Extensions" > "Manage extensions", then click on the gear beside "Redirect to HTTPS" and click "Preferences".
KNOWN ISSUE: The insecure page is still loaded for a few milliseconds, meaning some of your information might still be exposed. Unfortunately there is no way to solve this with the current extension API.
PLEASE REFER TO THE 'HELP' SECTION ON THE EXTENSION'S PREFERENCES PAGE TO REPORT BUGS
- This extension can modify or add functionality to one or more websites.
- This extension will add a button to Opera.

Rating: 4This extension is broken in Opera 12.10, 12.11, 12.12 (at least the preferences are not accessible). It worked well in Opera 12.02, but has less than 20 redirection rules (some outdated) and hence could redirect less than 20 sites.
RePlaceTeXt extension can redirect to https over 3000 sites using redirection rules of modern FF addon "HTTPS Everywhere":

Rating: 1Totally broken with 12.10: Breaks support for https versions of all most common websites!
Using this add-on, I get failed server calls, dead end and a constant strain of errors for googling, wikipedia and more through SSL versions (encrypted.google for example).
I'm not sure if it's the plug-in to blame that it's suddenly a lot harder to enforce SSL on all sites you visit, but with the latest version of Opera, it gives a lot of trouble.
It should be fixed, within the plug-in or from Opera's side because using SSL is very important once you use a lot of public and corporate networks.
Update: The previous issue could be avoided by turning of SPDY, but now with 12.11, It doesn't work, with SPDY on or of.
Weird is, that this only affects the 64bit version on my desktop and not the 32bit version on my laptop.

Rating: 4The forced Google Docs was driving me crazy! BUT it is still a good extension and it says the online viewer will go away in version 2.2. For now I can still use the extension sans Google docs thanks to phanx. Thank you phanx for the tip!

Rating: 5What's the rationale for redirecting to encryped.google.com and secure.wikimedia.org instead of just switching to https on the default website?
I don't know for other countries, but here in France, fr.wikipedia.org has the advantage of being physically closer, and answers faster than secure.wikimedia.org.
This does not seem to stand for www.google.fr vs encrypted.google.com, response time is about the same, but still, using a server name that's just the same as the one you're used to seems like a better option.Did you use those alternative websites because of a specific guideline from Google/Wiki(pm)edia?
Or is it just for historical reasons, because HTTPS was first made available there?Also, removing all special rules makes Redirect-to-HTTPS throw any website in a continuous reload loop. Not swell.
Anyway, thanks for your extension. ;)
